Are the statistical arguments used by Conservatives to downplay the seriousness of inequality in the US?

I want people who can be objective to answer this question. Do liberals intentionally misuse statistical ysis to make their points when discussing inequality? I have read articles from respected economists, but I also read articles from other respected economists who argue the exact opposite. What is your take?
