Why should you lie on your left side when having a phosphate enema?

I don’t think it really matters what side you’re on. I think directions are worded this way because most people are right handed. Contrary to the other answers, this is not the way the colon flows. The colon is kind of shaped like an upside down “U” it starts on the right side and ends on the left where your is.
