Is this a reasonable price to ship a snowboard overseas? Please help!?

I just bought a snowboard of ebay (DC PBJ 153). Its coming from North Carolina to New Zealand where I live. I got the board at a really good price so i wasnt to worried on how much shipping was going to cost at the time(silly mistake), it didnt say on the auction and i didnt bother to ask. I bought the board off a person not a company so I expected it to be little more expensive to ship but the person said they got a quote for shipping for the board and it was $261 USD. I thought that was really expensive or is that just a normal price? (I havent bought a snowboard online before). When I was looking at other snowboards on ebay (ones from companies/shops) the postage was always around $90-100 USD to New Zealand so I was shocked when this person emailed me $261 USD. Does anyone know how i could get it shipped cheaper? Or have any advice on what I can do. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
