What can tremors over different places of my body be?

it all started about two months ago when i noticed that a finger from my left hand began move side to side. i went to the doctor for an ingrown toenail that i had and also mention about my twitching. she didn't pay much attention to it and said that it could probably just be hereditary. now it is in several places of my body, and although it is not painful at all, i feel like i don't have control over my body anymore. can someone please tell me what the causes may be to your best knowledge.
